Our background
Being winegrape growers is our second career.  We
were both self-employed engineers with a love for
farming.  Sue's father raised dry land grain in
Montana in his youth as he worked his way through
college in agricultural engineering.  During college,
Karl tested and repaired bale wagons.  As we
became interested in growing winegrapes, we
started attending viticulture classes and seminars.
Our philosophy
We have lived our lives with a concern for the
natural environment.  Since Sue's participation in
the Ecology Club in the 5th grade to the design of
their strawbale home, from composting kitchen
scraps to providing water for wildlife, from
generating solar power to reducing runoff potential,
Karl and Sue try to minimize their impacts.
Our vineyard practices
All work in vineyard, with the exception of harvest, is
performed by Karl and Sue.  Pruning, thinning,
mowing, pest management, irrigation, weeding, and
fertilization is done by the owners.  This regular work
in the vineyard is not only good for the vines, it is good
for the body and soul.
